Sewing Pattern Secrets’
Girl’s Cargo Shorts
We love these shorts for the cuteness factor, with pleated top pocket storage.
The top pockets are rated as easy. The are simply stitched on top of the shorts and the pocket is pleated with a flap.
The belt loops are also easy, but be careful to make nice neat ends that can be folded over and topstitched. It’s vital to use the proper weight fabric so that the loops will fold over properly. You can use a different fabric for the loops to bedazzle the look, just use a woven of the same weight. Then top stitch each end to the front of the shorts as shown in our diagrams.
The closed zipper and fly is tricky, if you’ve never sewn a zipper before, so we’ve rated this pattern as intermediate for that reason only.
Please read below for more detailed information about this pattern.
