They snag. They shift. They dull your scissors and break your needles. And one wrong pin can leave a hole you can't hide.

🧵 What We Learned About Sequins

We tested 3 kinds of sequin fabric:

• Dense Sequins on Mesh: Beautiful, brutal. You'll need single-layer cutting and sequin removal in the seams, and no pins allowed. Chalk may beat the Frixion pen here.

• Patterned or Light Sequins: Beginner-friendly! You can pin around the sparkle. Softer mesh or woven bases behave better in construction.

• Stretch (Sorta) Sequin Mesh: Not true stretch! It has just enough give to confuse you. Great drape, but don't treat it like knit.

✂️ Cutting and Sewing Sequins: What Actually Works

• Mark smart. Bring both a Frixion pen (heat-erasable) and tailor's chalk to your table, and test which one shows up on your fabric.

• Cut from the back. You'll see the mesh, not the sparkle, and your lines stay true.

• Use pattern weights. Pins can leave holes and won't sit flat between sequins.

• Clear your seam allowances. Snip sequins out of the seam area before sewing so your needle doesn't hit them.

• Sacrifice old scissors. Sequins dull blades fast, so keep a pair just for this.
